Obama Bitterness

Presidential debates are well and good, but the American public would just as avidly watch Clinton, Obama, and McCain compete at a shooting range with handguns and rifles. And many would vote the winner.

I would consider that a MORE valid way to pick a president than our current system.

If it were purely random, that'd be better than what we have now.

If it were "who has familiarity with guns", that would probably provide a more libertarian, or at least more shooting-friendly, candidate.

Ideally, it would be three candidates with NO firearms experience, and they'd be told to both build and shoot a firearm, given only basic machine tools and some books/the Internet, and 4 weeks to build/practice. That would show problem solving ability, mechanical skill (probably the least important), and discipline.

It would be like reality tv. We would get the president we deserve.

I thought that was the point of marathon primary campaigning?

well, a test of problem solving, discipline and sincere desire to lead the oblivious schadenfreude-ridden rabble known as a citizenry while hectored by a churlish and inchoate entity known as the media.

it's interesting that folks look at political news and don't think of it as reality tv. What else could it be?

It appears that even the news over here is bored of the ongoing mess.
